Thanksgiving and Trainings

Crowdfunding Update

Thank you for everyone for your contributions and efforts in getting us so far! As of writing this, we have almost reached halfway to our crowdfunding goal.

Please consider supporting us here: https://give.bu.edu/lobstah-bots/?a=1

Also, the team is marking benchmarks on social media! If you’d like to follow our journey, you can do so on our Instagram, @burobotics246.

All of your support helps us allow more members to travel to competitions to see the results of their hard work, afford higher quality parts to built a more efficient bot, and ensure a quality, irreplaceable experience in both engineering and business for anyone and everyone who is interested in robotics. Thank you again; we couldn’t do this without you!

Offseason Trainings

Ramping up to the beginning of our season, subteams have been training new and returning members on how to use different machinery safely, how to navigate our software and design platforms, ways to strategize for a successful season, and more. Season Kick-off, here we come!

Coco Shen ‘27, our electrical lead, leads an off-season electrical training for new and returning members in our lab, walking through the wiring necessary for our robot once the season starts.

Escape Room

This year, during BU Academy’s annual tradition called “Lock-In,” where students sleep over at school for a night full of activities, the Lobstah Bots planned and ran their first school-wide event: an escape room! In just a few days, Hana Kaneko ‘27, Nate Magoun ‘27, Ziyan Thakkar ‘27, Coco Shen ‘27, Jo Sharpless ‘28, and Daniel David ‘27 managed to start and finish this project from scratch—and it ended up being a hit! During Lock-In, 9 different teams to solve the escape room throughout the night. We can’t wait to make this an annual tradition!

Notes of Gratitude

We asked our Lobstahs what they’re most grateful for since they’ve joined Team 246, and here’s what they said:

“This year I’m really grateful for everybody who helped me feel included during robotics lab hours. At first I was really nervous because I didn’t know anything about robotics, but thanks to Hana, Coco, Evie, Emilia, Eliana and Teddy I have had so much fun and I learned so much!” — Jo Sharpless, ‘29

“Thank you to all the mentors that are a part of the team and have made it what it is. From the second I stepped foot into the lab, not only have y’all taught me a myriad of technical skills, but have also facilitated my personal growth. This team wouldn’t be the same without you all!” —Teddy Shi, ‘27

“I can’t count how many amazing memories I’ve made on this team. Thank you to everyone who welcomed me from day 1 and that I’ve been lucky enough to work with throughout the years. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together next!” — Coco Shen, ‘27

“I’m so grateful for our wonderful mentors who have dedicated their time in helping us grow, innovate, and enjoy the work that goes into robotics. Thank you for all of the lab hours, late night Zoom meetings, and crazy shenanigans you’ve put up with to help us succeed! —Sabina Sandrasagra, ‘28

“Every season, I always feel welcome to try new things within robotics. I started in my comfort zone—programming—but since then, I’ve branched out so many other areas of robotics (some I didn’t even know existed)! Thank you to everyone—the members, mentors, and Lobstah Bot supporters—that have encouraged and taught me to take on projects and develop new skills that I would’ve been too intimidated to try otherwise. — Hana Kaneko, ‘27

As Thanksgiving nears, we’d like to thank YOU for all of your support! Being on the robotics team is truly one of the most rewarding high school experiences, but none of it would be possible without your contributions and hard work. Throughout the hardships and obstacles that us students face, it’s wonderful to know that you have our (lobstah) backs.

Gratefully,

The Lobstah Bots
